The Oscar Heidenstam Foundation

About The Oscar Heidenstam Foundation

The OH Foundation was established in 1991, in memory of Oscar Heidenstam and in appreciation & recognition of his remarkable legacy as an ambassador of Physical Culture.

The Oscar Heidenstam Foundation honours and gives financial and other awards to exceptional able‑bodied and disabled persons, associated with various sports categories who, by their personal example of endeavour, integrity, sportsmanship and ambassadorship, serve to inspire others.

We encourage everyone to support us in the fellowship of physical culture which is enjoyed worldwide and like Oscar, we extend the hand of friendship to all, no matter their colour, race, creed,  politics or sports associations or federations.

NOMINATIONS FOR THE OHF AWARDS
We welcome nominations from individuals, Associations and Federations.  Nominations can only be on behalf of an exceptional individual person; eg: not for a representative Association or Federation or Establishment. Extensive enquiries are then made behind the scenes, before prospective honourees are included on our compehensive list of prospective honourees.  Paramount in our deliberations are the physical culture interests Oscar.  The Trustees usually select a maximum of six honourees annually and the awards are presented at our annual 'Hall of Fame' Dinner. However, under certain circumstances we can and have presented an award at a suggested alternative function.

The Board of Trustees
Three of our founder members: the late Dr. Tom Temperlely O.B.E, our Vice President, sadly died in 2000.  Colin Norris our Vice Chairman, retired in 2003 but together with his wife Jackie, continue to support and serve the OHF in different ways.  Malcolm Whyatt, the founder of the OHF and former publisher of the Health & Strength magazine, retired from the board in 1999. However, he also continues to serve the Foundation in several ways not least as its historian and researcher and assisted by his wife Wendy.

Roy Edwards, current publisher of Health & Strength, joined the board in 2000 and retired in 2004.

We wish to place on record our profound appreciation to everyone who, through their kindness and generosity over the past 15years, has helped us to establish the Foundation. The Trustees have no commercial interest and work in a voluntary capacity on behalf of the OHF and its supporters.

Many great speeches have been made by many great men and women at our annual 'Hall of Fame' dinner.  Larry Scott of America (the 1997 OHF Hall of Fame honouree) perhaps best summed up the ethos of the Foundation, in a letter that he wrote to Malcolm.  Larry wrote " ..it's very impressive for a fellow (Oscar) to have lived so nobly that even after he is gone, others have carried on the tradition of goodness he shared. To see others doing good because of what he may have said or done is surely a comforting legacy. The desire to do something just for the good of it; not because your are getting something in return but just because it's right.  Building something that has nothing to do with profit but because you can feel the power of sefless giving...."
